Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs for patients considering or booking a Hijamah session at Sheffield Ruqyah Hijama Clinic
Hijamah, also known as cupping therapy, is an ancient form of treatment that involves applying cups to the skin to create a vacuum or suction. This draws blood to the surface, helping to remove toxins, improve circulation, relieve pain, and restore the body’s natural balance. It is a Sunnah practice the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “There is healing in the blade of the cupper.”
Hijamah has been used to assist with a wide range of conditions including chronic back pain, neck and shoulder tension, headaches and migraines, fatigue, poor circulation, skin conditions, digestive complaints, and general detoxification. It is also used as part of a monthly Sunnah wellness plan.
We offer three packages: Basic (3 cups followed by massage) at £40, Intermediate (7 cups followed by massage) at £70, and Advanced (11 cups followed by massage) at £90. A member of our team can advise which is most appropriate for your needs during your consultation.
You are advised to shower before your session and to fast for 3 hours prior to arrival. You may continue drinking water to stay hydrated. If you have diabetes, please do not fast, as this may affect your insulin levels. Please notify us of any medical conditions when booking.
Hijamah is generally safe when performed by a trained and certified practitioner. During your session, the therapist will take a full medical history before proceeding. If for any reason you are not medically safe to be treated, your session will be stopped and a full refund issued. Cupping is not recommended during pregnancy, on broken or inflamed skin, or for those with certain blood disorders please discuss any concerns before booking.
On arrival you will be seen by our certified Hijamist. Cups are applied to specific points on the body using a suction pump. For wet cupping (Hijamah), small incisions are made and the cups reapplied to draw out stagnant blood. The session is followed by a soothing massage. Most clients find the experience deeply relaxing.
Most clients experience only mild discomfort. The suction sensation can feel unusual at first but typically becomes comfortable within moments. Circular marks may appear on the skin afterwards and are normal these usually fade within a few days to two weeks.
Bookings are made online through our website. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time. Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance are eligible for a deposit refund within 14 working days. No-shows or cancellations within 24 hours of the session will not receive a refund and the remainder of the session fee may be charged.
Yes. Our Hijamah and massage service is suitable for both ruqya and non-ruqya clients. Wet cupping in particular is considered a powerful complementary treatment alongside ruqya for those affected by sihr (black magic), evil eye, or jinn-related conditions.
Many clients follow a monthly Sunnah Hijamah plan, which aligns with the Prophetic tradition of cupping on the 17th, 19th, or 21st of the lunar month. The ideal frequency for therapeutic purposes varies per individual our practitioner will advise you based on your health goals and condition.
